AC problem on double-decker train
Chennai: The
AC double-decker train may have been launched with much fanfare last
week between Chennai and Bengaluru, but complaints are already pouring
in. Some are unhappy with the airconditioning and others find the train
is not disabled- friendly.
Southern Railway spokesperson, J. Accama admits there are complaints about the airconditioning on the double-decker train to Bengaluru and says a technical team is looking into the problem.
“The train is equipped with new machinery and the technical team is trying to detect the fault,” she said, adding that all steps would be taken to address the shortcomings and representations from the physically challenged would be presented to the railway board for its consideration.
But Accamma claimed the train was receiving good patronage overall. Among those unhappy with the facilities onboard is P. Simma Chandran, secretary, Tamil Nadu Federation for the Handicapped. “Every time the issue comes up in Parliament they say that the differently abled are looked after but the reality is very different. While designing coaches for the train the railways should have thought about the handicapped,” he said.
Southern Railways Beneficiaries Association president, Kayal R.S. Elavarasu revealed he had a hard time finding the Travel Ticket Examiner to get a refund-granting certificate and when he finally found him, the railways had refused to refund his money.
