Railway union elections held

Staff Correspondent
An estimated 86.56 per cent of employees in the Railways, representing various unions, exercised their franchise during the three-day polling that concluded in Bellary and Hospet on Saturday.

The election is being held at the all-India level on the principle of ‘one union in one industry’.
There are five unions — South Western Railway (SWR) Mazdoor Union, SWR Employees Sangh, Nairutya Railway Mazdoor Sangh, Nairutya Railway Employees Union and Bharatiya Railway Mazdoor Union — contesting the elections to get recognition for negotiations with Indian Railways.
In Hospet, 1,428 of the 1,665 employees cast their votes, recording 85.76 per cent polling.
In Bellary, 88.77 per cent voting was recorded with the participation of 538 of the 606 employees in polling.
Counting of votes will be held in Hubli on May 2, according to a press release.
