A section of railway guards, who are members of the All India Guards Council, Tiruchi division, staged a demonstration here on Tuesday in support of their charter of demands.
The demonstration held in front of the Divisional Railway Manager’s office near Tiruchi Junction was led by the All India Guards Council, Tiruchi divisional organising secretary T.Rengachari.
The demonstrators demanded the railway administration to include Guards cadre in LARGESS scheme and accident free award scheme.
Grade pay
As graduation was the requisite basic qualification for the Guards cadre, they wanted the railway authorities to allot grade pay of Rs.4,600 and Rs.4,800 for Guards. They also demanded that the Guards cadre be brought under Intensive Roster.
Enhanced mileage allowance according to Bhalla committee formula, implementation of SPAD committee’s recommendations for day-to-day working of running staff, and modernisation of running rooms with full-fledged requisites for the running staff to avail rest were their other demands. The divisional secretary S.Murugesan and other office-bearers took part in the demonstration.
