Miracle derails woman's suicide bid on rail tracks
AHMEDABAD:
A middle-aged woman tried to end her life on the railway tracks near Khokhra on
Friday night, but has survived, even after three trains passed from over her.
She has sustained severe head injuries though, and was rushed to VS Hospital
for treatment. As the woman hasn't regained consciousness, police are yet
identify her and ascertain the reason for the suicide attempt.
According to locals, Mahesh Bhavsar, a resident nearby, saw a woman crossing the tracks near the Khodiar depot as a train was approaching at 9.30 pm. The woman, wearing a green salwar kameez, lay down on the tracks. People around then rushed to the tracks.
"Before they could reach the spot, two trains passed. Assuming that the woman was dead, those present called for the police and an ambulance. However, when the team reached the spot, it was found that the woman was still alive, although injured on her head and right hand. Before she could be taken to hospital, another train passed from over her on the tracks. As she was still breathing, she was first rushed to LG Hospital at around 10 pm," said a Khokhra police official.
Harshad Patel, a social worker from Amraiwadi, who had rushed on the spot, told TOI that hospital authorities said they did not have neurosurgeons or CT scan experts present and that the patient should be taken to VS Hospital. "This took more than half an hour as the woman was admitted to VS Hospital just before midnight, where she is under treatment. She was wearing expensive gold jewellery and fine clothes. We believe that she comes form a well-to-do family," he said.
Khokhra police officials investigating the case said that they found a receipt from a petrol pump in Gotri, Vadodara, on her. "We have contacted Vadodara police to find out if they have registered a missing person report," said an investigator.
