Next time you visit a railway station, be careful not to leave your baggage
unattended for a long time in order to avoid any inconvenience and face
some ‘hard questions’ from the police.
The Central
Railway (CR) has recently tied up with Nalco, a TATA subsidiary company,
for installing specially concealed cameras which can detect and zoom on any
baggage lying unattended beyond a decided time limit.
Railway
officials said the installation work has already started in September is
expected to be completed within the next seven months.
“The camera will
zoom on the unattended object, so that the railway police personnel can
just zero on it. Then the copscan scan it” VA Malegaonkar, chief public relation
officer (CR), said.
Officials said apart from the unattended baggage, the
cameras will also be fed with data of the wanted criminals. The moment the
wanted criminal is captured on the screen, an alarm will be raised. “The
data of the criminals will be compiled into the system along with the
assistance of the city police” said a senior official.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will be inducting eight more sniffer
dogs into their squad on Wednesday. The RPF already has 17 sniffer dogs.
