On right track? Beijing woos with rail projects

Saibal Dasgupta, TNN Nov 19, 2012, 04.07AM IST
BEIJING: China is stepping up plans to build rail lines for countries in the Asean.

The latest move involves an offer to bank roll and build a $7 billion railway line between Laos's capital of Vientiane and the Laos-China border. The moves are expected to soften the attitude of China's neighbours regarding regional issues bedeviling Beijing's ties to other East Asian countries during the Asean meeting, which began on Sunday, sources said, as also to checkmate US push in the region.
