Ambala, October 4
A diesel rail engine caught fire at a railway yard here today. The engine, which was attacked to a goods train, was being taken for shunting at the railway yard when it caught fire. Though the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained, Divisional Railway Manager P K Sanghi ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Locomotive driver Jaswinder Singh escaped unhurt as he jumped off the engine. Soon, fire tenders from cantonment and city fire stations were pressed into service to douse the flames.
However, the fire tenders faced a lot of difficulty in reaching up to the engine and took more than an hour to completely douse the flames.
Following the incident, a team of technical experts reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
