Mumbai: One person died and 15 others were injured, four
of them seriously, after two coaches of the Kasara Mumbai local train were hit
by the Mumbai-Gondia Vidarbha Express which was travelling in the opposite
direction. The accident happened at 9:30 pm on Thursday night.
Just a few minutes before the collision, the Kasara local which was heading to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai had derailed due to a landslide. Within a few minutes, the oncoming Vidarbha Express hit the coaches, killing three and injuring at least 31 others.
The General Manager of Railways, along with senior officials, rushed to the spot immediately after the accident. Rescue operations were hampered due to rain.

diverted via Vasai road. The Mumbai-Nagpur Duranto Express was halted at the
Washind station for over an hour. There was confusion among passengers as no
information was given out to them.
