Loco
pilots take out protest march
STAFF REPORTER
Loco pilots from the Southern Railway, the South Western Railway
and the South Central Railway zones took out a protest march to the office of
the Commissioner of Railway Safety and staged a demonstration at the Freedom
Park here on Thursday urging the commissioner to look into the various factors
that lead to human failure causing rail accidents.
The protest was organised by the All India Loco Running Staff
Association (AILRSA) following the Hampi Express collision on May 22 at
Penukonda claiming 25 lives. While the railway administration attributed the
accident to the loco pilot's failure in jumping the home signal, the loco
pilots have been claiming that they are made to overwork resulting in human
failure.
The rally was flagged off by P.S. Prasad, general secretary of
the Karnataka State Coordination Committee for Central Government Employees.
AILRSA's zonal general secretary C. Sunish and other leaders
participated in the rally attended by nearly 200 loco pilots. The leaders said
that the loco pilots are working under “inhuman conditions”.
