Train Engine Catches Fire
Vadodara (Guj): Rail traffic between Mumbai and Delhi was affected tonight as a goods train was stranded following a fire in its engine on the Golden Bridge across Narmada river at Bharuch, about 90 km from here. Several trains, including the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani and the August Kranti Express, were halted at various stations after the train remained stranded on the over hundred-year-old bridge following the fire around 8.15 pm, a spokesperson of the Vadodara division of Western Railway said.
The engine fire destroyed the electric wires and replacement work was going on, he said, adding that the goods train has now been brought to a place nearby the railway station at Bharuch. Efforts are on to restore rail traffic on the down line. Traffic on the up line, which was stopped for more than two-and-half hours due to the incident, has been restored, he said. Nobody was injured in the incident. The goods train carrying fertilisers was on its way to Bhusaval from Gandhidham.
