Bombay high court slams railways for blaming Mumbai mishap victim

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court, on Thursday, criticized the railways for continuing to justify its stand of blaming a 25-year-old girl, BhavikaMehta, who had lost her leg after she was pushed out of a train for resisting a thief on June 5, 2012. The railways, in a fresh affidavit, said that it had done so 'in good faith'.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Ajay Gadkari said that they will deal with the railway's stand. The judges also directed Bhavika's family to submit medical bills and other documents related to her treatment and the amount spent on her artificial leg.

The court was hearing a petition filed by her family over the failure of the railways to foot her medical expenses.

The HC has scheduled the next hearing for Friday.
