Bringing in more transparency to their services, the BMTC inaugurated its ‘leave management kiosk’ here on Thursday to help employees plan and apply for leave.
Inaugurating the kiosk at the BMTC depot 2 in Shantinagar, Transport Minister and city in-charge Ramalinga Reddy said employees need not take permission and could apply directly for leave through the system.
Previously, there had been allegations by the employees regarding unfair leave practices by depot managers.
‘Soon at all depots’
“A smart card will be given to employees to use the system. Soon, all BMTC depots will have the kiosks following which we will also extend this service to KSRTC employees,” Mr. Reddy said, pointing out that 36 depots in Gulbarga were already installed with the kiosks.
The machine, which automatically allows sanctioning of leave, has a touch screen and voice assistance in English and Kannada. The employee can view his leave balance, leave status, leave history, and apply/cancel leave among other options. The leave approval is communicated to the employee through receipt and an SMS.
Limit at 10 p.c.

Employees said they would be trained on how to operate the system after its launch.
About 10 per cent of them (any category) can apply for leave in a day. Leave will not be generated if the percentage has been exceeded except in emergency situations.
