Kalka-Katra train engine trial by November-end: Railways

CHANDIGARH: Northern Railway was in the final stages to wind up the construction work to kick-off engine trial of Kalka-Katra Express by November-end, said V K Gupta, general manager, northern railway, promising the train would be equipped with all kind of facilities as far as safety and security was concerned.

Gupta was in the city for inspection of Chandigarh railway station on Saturday, where he held meeting with officers of Ambala division.

"The Kalka-Katra train is a crucial project for us. The project was moving in full speed and enthusiasm, but the work got days due to heavy rains and tension in the valley and Jammu region. Our labour ran away and it was very difficult for us to finish the work. Now, things have fallen in place and by the end on November, we will be able to take the railway engine there for the trial run," Gupta said.

Gupta further said, "The railways in the valley and Jammu have not only connected people through trains, but have done more than that. People have started establishing business there and factories are coming up with the expansion of railway lines in those areas. This project has now become all the more crucial for us", Gupta added.

Elaborating on the issues of Chandigarh railways station and other stations of the Ambala division, he said the Chandigarh railway station has a numbers of trains, which were never expected in the past. "Four new trains have already kicked-off within two months and more will start in recent future from here to facilitate the public", he said.
