AC train fares to cost more from tomorrow

Train fares of all AC classes will become costlier by more than 3 per cent from tomorrow.
The new service tax of 3.708 per cent, as per the government notification, will be levied on AC First Class, Executive Class, AC-2 tier, AC-3 tier, AC Chair Car and freight.

Thiruvananthapuram/Alappuzha: The public ire over the mishap that snuffed out five lives on Sunday at an unmanned level crossing (ULC) near Aroor railway station seems to have forced the railways to spring into action. 

NEW DELHI: The Union government on Monday hiked dearness allowance (DA) by 7 per cent, benefiting its 
80 lakh employees and pensioners and costing the exchequer an additional Rs 7,408 crore annually.

The hike will be effective from July 1, 2012, and the employees would be entitled for arrears from this date.
